Posted by Jody Urquhart on Tue, Jul 31, 2018 @ 12:10 PM

More women are people pleasers than men are. We love to support, help and be there when others need us. It makes us feel good. We're there for our families, friends, and colleagues and sometimes have very little energy left over for ourselves.

Sample Conference Sponsorship Thank you Letter

Posted by Jody Urquhart on Fri, Apr 11, 2014 @ 12:25 PM

I was recently a motivational speaker for a global meeting planners summit. I attended a sold out session that focused on boosting conference sponsorship.

Unanimously, delegates agreed that if sponsors don't feel recognized they won't sponsor events in the future.

During the working session we drafted the following "Sponsorship Thank You Letter" template:

Dear (XYZ company, or particular people involved in sponsoring)

The (Insert Conference Name) wishes to genuinely thank you for supporting our 26th annual conference.

Thanks to your sponsorship, support and participation, we put on an exceptional event with over 40 guest speakers, two funny female motivational speakers, four networking events and the closing banquet. Over 350 people ( be specific about who attended- medical technologists, probation officers, etc.) attended the event.

Hundreds of volunteer hours went into creating this event. As you know, the ( insert) industry has been through a lot of change, and it is critical for our delegates to have the opportunity to come together to appreciate these changes and prepare for the future.

Thank you for investing the time and resources to help recognize and appreciate our delegates and provide cutting edge education for the industry.

(Make the thank you as accurate as possible as far as those involved)

We’d like to take this opportunity to say a special thank you to Claudius Jones, and his dedicated team Jennifer Justice, Caeli Bronx, and Tim Smithers.

We sincerely appreciate their time and efforts during the event- setting up and taking down exhibits, introducing the funny motivational speakers and for attending the networking summit. We’d also like to thank XYZ Company for providing quality products and valuable support and education for our delegates at the vendor booths.

We visited the booth several times, and it was very popular. The ( XYZ Companies) new technology is a valuable piece to support the co-payments for insurers and delegates were keen to hear about it.

Your prizes and giveaways were a great hit!

We hope that we can count on your sponsorship in the future. If there is any way we can increase the value for you for your sponsorship dollar, please let us know.

Thank you again for all of your generous support, we could not have done it without you!

We look forward to your participation again next year; our conference date is ( insert date), and we will contact you ( insert date).

Sincerely,

Your Conference Team ( insert specific names)

How to Give an Inspirational Speech in 5 Minutes or Less

Posted by Jody Urquhart on Tue, Jan 03, 2012 @ 12:52 PM

funny guest speaker

Is it possible to motivate your team in under five minutes? Yes! People are more distracted than ever today, and they need short bits of inspiration to keep them focused. The biggest challenge most leaders have is they speak for too long, and the audience gets bored or distracted.

Template: Letter to Request to Attend a Conference

Posted by Jody Urquhart on Mon, Sep 19, 2011 @ 01:15 PM

Do you want to attend a conference but first have to convince your boss to let you go?

For any manager, sending an employee to an industry event is a significant investment. First, it means covering your shift, add to this the cost of transportation ( flights, ground transport), and hotel. Thus, it is essential to building a convincing argument about why you should attend the event.

Make sure to outline the educational content, CEU credits, guest speakers and networking opportunities that will benefit you, your team and your career. Be sure to approach your manager well in advance of the event to make sure the cost to attend the meeting is in the budget. Also, flight costs do tend to go up, closer to the event.

Conference planners spend an entire year customizing an event to make sure they provide you with the best educational experience possible. It is also essential to upgrade your skill and seek personal development opportunities every year.

Add to this; industry regulations are continually changing; we have to stay ahead of the game and not be blindsided or left behind. Also, some of the most influential industry advocates coordinate and speak at industry events, so it's a great place to contribute. Nowhere can you get all of this and more than by attending industry events?

Below is a template for a customizable letter to your manager to get permission and funding to attend a conference. Using this template, fill in relevant information from the conference website and agenda. Do your research and determine what CEU credits will be offered and outline what industry keynote speakers are on the schedule.

Most of the information below you can find on the conference website, but the more research you do, the better. Call the conference chair or administrator and get specifics on who will be attending and what new, relevant information will be discussed. Use this to build the argument that this is an event you cannot miss. To solidify your participation and get the most out of the conference, consider offering to be a guest speaker and do a break out session.

I have had many requests for a shorter letter to attend a conference. Thus, (below the more extended template) is a more condensed version.

Longer Version: Sample Template: Request to Attend a Conference. Please edit to your event.
