On January 16, 2015 I am a humorous motivational speaker for the New Mexico School District Regional Education Cooperative #6.
Over 250 teachers, serving pre kindergarden to grade 12 will attend. The focus of the conference is the New Teacher Evaluation System. New Mexico Teach group is providing training in the school district about the new evaluation system.
The Teacher evaluation system focuses on 4 domains. The two that are of focus for this event are creating environments of learning and teaching for learning.
The Teacher Evaluation System is overall seen as a positive change however some greet it will skepticism.
For instance, 50% of a teachers evaluation relies on the score they receive from this new evaluation system. The other 50% comes from student test scores from previous years. Some teachers feel this is unfair. Every school year is considered a fresh start for a student but not necessarily for a teacher. Student Test scores are evaluated from up to several years before and this makes up half of a teachers overall evaluation and is determined before the school year even begins.
The new evaluation system has also forced school administrators into the classroom more often to evaluate teachers. Many teachers consider this a good move as it gives them more feedback on performance.
I am looking forward to being a motivational speaker for the New Mexico School District. I am presenting the opening motivational speech, This Would be Funny if it Wasn't Happening to Me! How to Embrace Change with Enthusiasm and Vigor.
