On October 12, 2017, I am a motivational speaker for the Credit Union Recovery Collection Academy. The event takes place at the Best Western Plus at the Mall of America in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
Over 400 credit union collection professionals will attend. The theme of the event, Connecting with Opportunity - Collaborating for the Future, speaks to the need to collaborate with both clients and partners to improve collections.
The lineup of guest speakers includes topics on using technology to solve collection issues, Roundtable discussions, Deceased collections as well as a headquarters tour.
People become delinquent on payments when stop making regular payments. After time, the loan will go to collections professionals who help
A collections professional seeks to minimalize financial exposure to the collection of delinquent credit. This means they must find the person whose account has fallen into collections, listen empathetically to their story and ultimately help carve out solutions to resolve the delinquent account.
The hardest part of the job is finding the indebted person. When someone needs money, they are eager and readily available. Yet, it is amazing how when they owe money, they are suddenly hard to locate.
Chasing around people for money is stressful at the best of times. Many people try to hide from debt, hoping it will just magically disappear. Relatives and family members may even be in on the game covering up for them.
A credit collections professional has incredible tact and must show a lot of compassion.
While there is no question the person owes money, the question is, who gets paid first? Because most people in debt don't just owe one account, but likely many. Who are you going to pay first, the person who yells at you for not paying or the person who has compassion for the situation? Approaching a client with compassion may be the only way to work out the situation.
