On February 2, 2016, I am the opening motivational speaker for the Kansas Parks and Recreation Conference. The event, taking place at the United Wireless Arena in Dodge City, Kansas, will draw in over 250 parks and recreation directors and program coordinators from across Kansas.
Parks and recreation has weathered cut backs over the last couple years. In an effort to attract business to the area, the Kansas Government has cut business taxes which has shrunk goverment spending to parks and recretion. The western part of Kansas has been hit hard by lower oil prices and subsequent government cut backs.
This crowd are extreme advocates for the areas parks and recreation facilities and consider them critical for building and sustaining quality of life for residents.
Maintaining parks, facilities on limited resources means juggling priorities, resources and people to make sure essential services are maintained.
These recreation leaders also deal with staff issues, seasonal employees, challenges with managing millenials, scheduling and more.
