On September 8, 2015, I am a motivational speaker for the Greater Ann Arbour, Michigan Human Resources Managers Association( SHRM). The event held at the historical Webber's Inn in Ann arbour, Michigan will draw over 70 HR generalists and professionals.
Michigan went through tough economic times in 2009 during the mortgage housing crisis. Today, this region is experiencing a rebound. However, along with a more buoyant economy comes growth pressures. In the HR field across Michigan, this means the retirement of baby boomers. Many older professionals delayed their retirement because their benefits ( tied to the market) were too low to supply a comfortable exit from the workforce.
Now that the market has shown some relief and bounced back somewhat, baby boomers are retiring in large numbers. This leaves HR professionals clamouring to find younger professionals to take their place.
Other challenges in HR are the drastic changes offered by the affordable care act, forcing employers to reconsider what qualifies as part time employment.
I really enjoyed being a motivational speaker for the GAASHRM group. It was a really fun loving, interactive group. I presented the motivational speech, I Love My Job, it's the People I Can't Stand!
