On December 11, 2015, I am a motivational speaker for the foothills, calgary area school support staff conference at the Highwood High School in High River, Alberta.
The event will draw over 300 support staff from school district 38. Support staff include education assistants, school transport staff ( bus drivers), mechanics, maintenance and administrative staff.
This professional development day is designed to appreciate, support and recognize support staff for the behind the scenes work they do. Teachers, called certificated staff, often get the balance of recognition in schools because they are out in front of students teaching them.
The foothills school district is quite small in terms of size, employing 800 staff and servicing 19 schools. Thus, the organization is quite flat and everyone needs to make things happen. One of the challenges school support staff have is with staying up to date with technology. For instance, while teachers regularily use tools like GoogleDocs, some transportation staff may not even confirm their earnings statements arrive each month.
The theme of the foothills school division is, Explore them, Develop them, Celebrate them. The Foothills School division was the first division in canada to commit to have all employees and volunteers ungo the RESPECT in school training.
I am looking forward to being a motivational speaker for the Foothills Calgary School Division Support Staff Conference. I will present the motivational speech, The Nerve to Serve, Say Hello to Humor and Goodbye to Burnout! I will also present the break out session, Follow Me, I'm Right Behind You.
