On September 27,
2017, I am a motivational speaker for the Alberta Development Officers Association (ADOA) Conference in Westlock, Alberta.
The ADOA's mandate is to provide an opportunity for discussion, communication and education for Development Officers, and those persons designated as a development authority, in the Province of Alberta.
The audience is made up of city planners, development clerks, and compliance officers.
Development officers work with the city, town or municipalities planning and development department to guide, evaluate and issue applications for development.
This proud group of professionals ultimately helps guide decisions that shape our future community.
This group has extensive knowledge of land use bylaw, the development permitting process, developing safety codes and more. They often consult with the city council, community and industry stakeholders, the general public and other agencies.
To do this type of work requires outstanding tactful, diplomatic negotiation, customer service skills, and conflict resolution. Devoted public servants, development officers truly help create a quality of life in our communities.
I am looking forward to serving as a funny motivational speaker for the Development Officers Conference. I will present the opening keynote, This Would be Funny if it Wasn't Happening to Me! Followed by a workshop, I Love My Job, it's the People I Can't Stand. Government employees who have to deal with landowners and developers have to face conflict regularly in their work!
