I gave three motivational speeche last month right here in Calgary, alberta, where I live.
I love speaking at home. I love not having to take two days out of my schedule to fly somewhere else, not having to arranging the childcare or make sure everything will run smoothly when I'm gone ( it won't- but i try).
Many conferences are planned in calgary, and I think more of them should be.
Calgary is an exuberant city, bursting at the seams with energetic, talented, amazing people. It is the home of just over one million people, we have a diverse population and one of our main industries is the oil and gas business. Many large, multi-national oil companies headquarters are located here in calgary.
Calgary is a very cosmopolitan and friendly town with a lot of refined working professionals. They work hard and they play hard, and usually both at the same time. Some of them live for their work, some of them escape the city as often as possible. Which is easy to do as the Rocky Mountains hug the city. Skiing, hiking and wildlife are only a 60 minute drive west.
This is a great destination for a convention. We have amazing facilities, and it is relatively inexpensive.
Ok the weather is not great. This is not sunny florida or the virgin islands. We get the occasional chinook, a warm wind and sun, and in the middle of a snowy feild ...it's pretty.
We boast great people, skiing, hiking and world class events like the famous calgary Stampede.
I am a motivational speaker at events all over the United States and canada, and far as meetings go, Calgary really is one of the best places to hold an event. Some of my most memorable events are international conventions held here in Calgary. Because the event draws people from all over the world, I feel like an ambassador for the city, recommending what to do, where to go and who to go with.
It's the people, the spirit that matters and Calgary has alot of that.
