On May 24, 2016, I am a funny motivational speaker for the National Association of Orthopaedic Nurses ( NAON) Conference in Orlando Florida.
Upwards of 900 orthopaedic nurses will attend. Technology and the Electronic Medical Record are key innovations in the industry.
Many hospitals are also piloting bundled payments which adds innovation, uncertainty and also complexity to the work. Reducing length of patient stay is always at the forefront for everyone on the healthcare team. However, if patients are discharged too early they often end up back in care.
Daily, a shift can vary as some patients are more acute then others and require more intense care. Also, innovations in technology now scan medications, patient wrist bands and a nurses badge to keep track of medication and decrease error. However, administration of medication can take much longer.
Helping patients manage pain is a key responsibility for an orthopaedic nurse.
The theme of the event, Value, Vision, Volunteering speaks to the incredible passion Orthopaedic nurses have for the value and vision of their profession.
I will serve as a funny motivational speaker suring the conference closing ceremonies. Nurses love to laugh and be inspired before the long journey home!
