Do you have a challenging situation ahead of you that you dread? This may be a work deadline, a funeral, a diet, delivering a speech, a court appearance, etc.
If you know something challenging is going to happen which will test your resolve( and create trouble in your life), set yourself up for success by being prepared.
Do the groundwork necessary to feel more comfortable, clear headed and ready for action.
Some action items to consider...
Research. Make sure you know your stuff: know what will be required, research potential outcomes and be ready for whatever comes your way. For instance, If you are delivering a speech, make sure you know your audience, have your speech organized and memorized.
Prepare the Environment. Set up the space for success. If you are going on a diet, empty your cupboards of tempting treats and fill your fridge with fruits and veggies. If you have a special meeting, go to the venue in advance and see what the space looks like, so you're ready. If you are delivering a motivational speech, make sure the microphone works.
Be Physically Ready. Before a challenging event, eat well, get enough sleep and build in time to relax in advance.
If you don't fix your boat before it storms, you risk it being a negative experience that either scares you from future opportunities or leaves with a mess you have to fix.
