National nurses week is from May 6- 12, 2015. This years theme, Ethical Practice, Quality Care speaks to a nurses dilema to balance resources and provide the best patient care possible.
Nurses week is an annual event that ends every year on May 12, Florence Nightengale's birthday. Nurses play an important role in families lives and deserve recognition all year round. Nurses week is designed to repect, appreciate and advocate for the important role nurses play, Nurses help, support and advocate for our loved ones during their most impactful critical moments. Without a nurses care, diligence and compassion many patients would not get the care they need.
Most people have a nurse or other healthcare professional who has helped them or their families cope during challenging times. What we often don't see as patients or family members is the stress and strain that can be happening behind the scenes. Daily, Nurses must balance multi- roles, agendas, budgets, compliance, schedules, even politics to more to make sure patients get the care they need.
Of course, many nurses have their own families to care for and struggle to balance work and life. Yet every day most nurses show up and work hard despite these limitations. This year be sure to celebrate national nurses week and appreciate a nurse who has made a difference in your life.
