I recently learned that Elvis Presley was not an original. His songs were almost a direct replica of African-American rhythm and blues singers like James Brown or Jackie Wilson.
Yet Elvis, known as the King of Rock and Roll is considered an international sensation and one of the most important figures in popular culture in the 20th century.
Elvis' popularity stems not from orignality in the songs he sang but in his style and charisma as a performer. He brought energy, life and enthusiasm to his singing. Other performers lacked this charm, sexiness and engagement.
Sometimes presentation is even more critical than product or substance.
Similarily, what makes a motivational speaker provocative is his style of presentation. The substance of the motivational speech is critical but it's the inspirational speakers charisma and dynamic delivery that engages the group. I have heard motivational speakers who have almost no message at all (or at least no message I can understand), who have captivated the crowd because of the way they deliver their motivational speech.
Focus on Presentation:
Many people are very successful not because they came up with some revolutionary new idea, but because they took what's out there and changed it's presentation.
Many entrepreneurs strive to be original and different. There is still a lot to be discovered and created but most ideas are already out there in some form or another.
Presentation has to do with the flare you use to present your offerings. Color, design, style, presence all wrap up around a central theme that compels other to pay attention.
The dictionary definition of presentation is The manner or style in which something is given, offered, or displayed. It has not as much about the product or service but about how you represent it to the world.
I think presentation is even more important than product because people today are so distracted, your presentation has to really stand out to get people attention.
