On February 21- 22, 2013, I am a motivational keynote speaker for the Government Finance Officers Association of Arizona.
Over 150 city budget directors will attend the event at the Prescott Resort and Conference Center, in an audience comprised of finance administrators to accountants, analysts, department directors and some vendors.
Arizona, like most states, suffered some severe cut backs and challenges through the recession. Most government departments have had to cut their workforce as revenues have declined. These government financial professionals are forced to work with only a skeleton of the resources they were used to and many hope that some budgets and resources will bounce back. This group, like many other groups in tougher economic times, can really benefit from motivational speeches and inspirational talks to gird them for the work to be done!
Government finance officers work with the city manager and staff to try to balance budgets and make sure that all departments get the budget and resources they need allocated to them. Not an easy task, as every department thinks its programs are essential and should not be scaled back. The finance officers are also accountable to city council and the board.
City council members (including the mayor) are elected officials who are responsible to the citizens to ensure the community is a safe and comfortable place to live. All major changes must be approved by council, they then go to the city to have budgets approved.
Accountants allocate money, prepare documents for coucil to approve and make sure they have the resources they need.
The fiscal year starts July 1 with a public meeting to get budget ideas; once the budget is adopted it is put into action.
On February 21, I am giving the motivational speech, I Love My Job - It's the People I Can't Stand! to give finance officers tools to better communicate under pressure.
I am also the closing motivational keynote speaker with the inspirational speech, The Nerve to Serve... Say Hello to Humor & Goodbye to Burnout!
