On February 8, 2013, I am a motivational speaker for the Miami Children's Hospital Leadership Retreat.
I get to address 150-200 high level hospital leaders including directors, the board, physicians, Vice Presidents and the CEO will attend this inspiring event.
I enjoyed speaking with several hospital leaders beforehand to prepare to be the motivational speaker for the hospital's leadership retreat. This unique group has been up to some amazing things.
Some of their initiatives include:
Telemedicine which deploys video technology in different areas of the world. With this technology, a patient can be diagnosed remotely by a Miami Children's Hospital Physician.
Over the last few years the hospital has opened a new Emergency Department ... a brand new critical care bed tower ... three ambulatory care units ... and a new laboratory.
LEAN Management is the base for them. The leadership at Miami Children's Hospital perform regular Root Cause Analysis to eliminate waste and pinpoint errors and delays. The lean methodology is used for process improvement and to document patient outcomes.
Lean management involves Japanese teachings including:
HYONKA or level loading which ensures that workload is evenly distributed and KAIZEN to identify, initiate and work on opportunites for improvement.
Miami Children's Hospital has named their approach 'the MCH way' - the building blocks that support a culture to bring value to your work and make it a better place to work.
April 16, 2012, called the Big Bang, was a very important day for the hospital as every department went live with electronic medical records.
The other motivational speaker for the hospital leadership retreat is their CEO, a former ED physician and a very dynamic, charismatic leader who has moved this hospital well beyond where they thought they could go in only 4 years. His motivational speech will be to update people on progress and celebrate success.
Like any great organization, each of the leaders I spoke with agree that appreciation is the glue that keeps the teams together.
I am looking forward to being a motivational speaker for the hospital leadership retreat, my motivational speech is The Nerve to Serve... Say Hello to Humor & Goodbye to Burnout!
