One state of being is a state of play. At work we don't just 'do stuff,' we are someone.
Who are you when you are at work? (Distracted... Intense... Respectful and appreciative... Fun, playful, & spirited?) Having fun means to bring more of who you really are to work.
Most workplaces focus on doing. Getting the job done, performance, tasks and to-do lists. In this strong drive to do things we forget who we are. If you can't remember the last time you had fun at work, it may be because you have lost yourself to the job.
Sometimes we get so caught up in checking off tasks we forget about who we are when we work. Are you powerful? courageous? trusting? playful? These are especially important questions for leaders to consider because we follow leadership's example.
If you look around and nobody is having fun at work, than ask yourself, "Do I have fun while working?" If not, practice being more playful. Learn to take yourself lightly when under duress. Let down your defenses and enjoy work while you are doing it.
