I was the opening Inspirational Speaker for the Manitoba Association of School Business Officials at the Victoria Inn, Winnipeg, on June 12, 2012.
I presented the inspirational speech, Follow Me I'm Right Behind You: How to Lead and Influence Others.
School business officials in Manitoba come from a range of disciplines including directors of transportation, maintenance, administration and finance. They are responsible for anything and everything to do with the overall non-academic functioning of the school district.
Before my inspirational speech, I interviewed several delegates and found out that some of the challenges this diverse audience face are:
-Smaller school districts have a hard time hiring staff willing to come out to rural areas.
-Many school districts in Manitoba manage their own fleet of school buses, which means recruiting, hiring and retaining school bus drivers. This is not an easy task as it requires working unusual shifts including early morning pick up and afternoon drop off.
-Weather in Manitoba is always a challenge. With harsh weather conditions, schools must be shut down in an efficient way. The message must be communicated to parents, teachers and all the maintenance, transportation (i.e. school bus delivery cancelled) and administrative staff.
I enjoyed being an inspirational speaker for the School Business Officials. They were a warm and engaged crowd that appreciated interaction and especially the opportunity to take themselves lightly.
