Last May I was a motivational speaker for a conference for educators, that day i was fortunate enough to meet Bob Koehler.
Bob was also a motivational speaker for the education conference speaking on his signature motivational talk, Extraordinary Organizations Amazing People.
Bob has since become a good friend of mine, he is a real example of living in the moment and having an extraordinary life.
I just got off the phone him this afternoon and he reminded me of how precious life is and how living an extraordinary life starts right now. Being extraordinary is not just a goal you chase after. Instead, it is a choice to make and to live by everyday.
Bob says there are two types of people in the world: doers and gonna doers. Most people say they are " gonna do" a lot of things but they never get around to it. Daily pressure from work, family and the never ending to do list get in the way of following through on commitments that we really want to make.
In his motivational talk, Bob inspires people not to get sidetracked from living their best life. As a motivational speaker, Bob compells people to resist the trap of living life by default instead of by design.
Living by Default means putting up with the ordinary or vanilla life. Default living invites uninspiring relationships, uninspiring jobs, less than ideal income and a pretty boring life.
Living by Design means taking ownership and not settling for less than what you really want. To live by design you have to take the time to figure out what you really value, what your capable of and what you want to do with your life.
It does entail putting yourself out there, shaking things up, taking risk, and possibly offending others. The results are living a life you really want to live and being an inspiration for others.
From the moment I met Bob I could tell he is an extraordinary man.
