Attending a conference is time consuming and expensive. Before you can decide if you can attend an event you need to understand what expenses will be involved.
Below is a list of potential expenses that may be incurred:
Conference Registration. This is the fee to attend the keynote motivational speaker, workshops and other guest speakersFlights. You can get a good estimate for the cost of a round trip economy class flight on travel websites like Orbitz.com. Usually booking a month before the event is a good idea to get the best rate.
Lodging. The conference will have designated hotel (s) that offer special rates for conference attendees. Note that they want you to use this room rate because it all figures into the overall cost and discount for the event. When you call to book your room, also ask what the Normal Room Rate ( for non- conference attendees). In some cases this may be lower.
Transportation from the Airport to the Hotel. Once you get to the airport there are several options to get you to the hotel. First check if the hotel has a shuttle, if they do this will be the most economical way. Alternatively, a car rental, super shuttle or taxi are options.
If you rent a car you will have gas mileage and potentially parking at the hotel
Pre and Post Conference Events. Optional. Pre and Post events are often at an additional fee above general admission. If you are trying to save, this may be where you can shave down expenses.
Materials. Optional. The Keynote motivational speaker, guest speakers and workshop leaders may have materials that you can buy at the back of the room.
Food. Many meals will be included with conference registration, however you may need to pay extra for some dinners or if it is lunch or dinner on your own.
Attending a conference is Motivational and educational and well worth it in terms of inspiration, networking and personal growth.
