On October 15-17, 2011, Librarians from across the state of Colorado will come together for inspiration, motivational talks, education and networking.
The library convention will take place in Loveland, Colorado, and be inspired by the theme, Team Up! Powering Library Partnerships.
I am the motivational keynote speaker for the librarians delivering my motivational talk, This Would Be Funny if it Wasn't Happening to Me! By the end of my humorous speech, librarians will understand the imperative to take themselves lightly and keep a balanced perspective despite change.
Like many professionals (as well as human beings at large!) librarians are not immune to change, especially as it relates to technology. Their industry has evolved a lot, and as libraries move from print to electronic data storage and retrieval, a librarian's role becomes increasingly important. They are the agents who help people find relevant and useful information.
Librarians help patrons access information, set up email accounts, get on the Internet, find, access, analyse and manipulate information. I still remember our great grade school librarian, Mrs Brown, who would inspire me to read a good book by enticing me with the story line and relating it to my own struggles.
Inspiring learning is still a librarian's most important role. As a motivational keynote speaker for librarians I love to remind the audience that their role may change in the way they do their business daily, but their impact can be felt for years to come.
There are many great speakers and motivational talks for the librarians including, Libraries, Essential for Learning, Essential for Life, by Molly Raphael, and Schools and Libraries for the Net Generation by Doug Johnson.
