Your conventions' evening event can be memorable and funny or a total flop. It all depends on how you structure the evening with your most important ingredient being your entertainment.
The appropriate after dinner speaker will lighten up the crowd, build rapport and encourage participation. The last thing you want is a snooze fest ( photo left) to make people run for their hotel rooms.
After Dinner Entertainment is a challenging spot to fill because the audience:
- is tired from a full day of learning
- has usually been drinking alchol so their attention span is minimal at best
- has a full belly of food so their blood flow is being diverted from their brain to their stomach
Some conventions decide to have a nice meal and then call it a night while others will have a full band or an after dinner speaker, a comedian or a magician. There are pros and cons to each option, check out our blog posts:
- Should your Hire a Humorous Motivational Speaker or a Comedian for your After Dinner Speaker
An after dinner speaker is a good investment if they can capture the crowds interest, engage them in some humorous interaction and create rapport with the group.
The overall goal is entertainment and to create fond memories. Too much content may not go over well as the audience is not in the mood to absorb information.
