I was a speaker for the US department of Transportation conference for government employees.
As another leadership speaker for the department of transportation conference suggeted, government employees need a lot of motivation. Providing safe, secure, environmentally and financially sustainable transportation services is no easy gig. Think about it. 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, the transportation professionals are making sure the transit system is on time, safe and reliable to allow passengers to get to where they need to go. This is a huge commitment to our community. The nuances to make this happens are scheduling shifts, transportation routes, ensuring timely transport and a whole lot more.
Transporation services professionals also go along way to ensure environmental sustainability, and social equity. Some transportation professionals are school bus drivers and make sure pupils are safely transported to school on time. A huge relief for parents.
The impact of transporation services is incredible. Every day millions of people safely get to where they need to go and reduce their environmental impact by taking transit.
I live in calgary, alberta and it is very difficult to drive downtown for work in rush hour traffic. What should be a 20 minute drive can turn into 1 hour. This throws off schedules, burns alot of fuel ( close to 1.10 per litre right now) and makes you want to throw yourself under a bus.
Stuck in traffic, You look over and see the smart professionals who are taking the light rail transit system as they speed past everyone else and think, I wish i took public transit.
