On September 11, 2014, I am a motivational speaker for the Ontario Municipal Human Resources Association (OMHRA) Conference in Alliston, Ontario.
Over 200 municipal HR professionals from across ontario will attend the event. The theme of the conference is TALENT- What are you doing with it?
One of the key issues the municipal government faces is succession planning. Government employees are generally long term and loyal. As such, armed with a solid pension, these baby boomers are retiring in the next decade and leaving these vacant spots to fill.
Also in the government, they tend to pull talent from other municipal positions. For instance, the town of oakville will hire from within the town of Mississauga employee population. Thus there are not a lot of outside people to replace lost positions.
A typical audience member will be mid level HR Generalist who works for their municipality. As such many deal with unions and unionized staff. Municipal HR Generalists are involved in labor relations, negotiating union contracts, organizational development, pensions and benefits, hiring and firing and succession planning.
Also, because they are in HR, they get to deal with whatever anyone else doesn't want to deal with.
I am looking forward to being a motivational speaker for the Ontario Municipal Human Resources Association. I will give the opening motivational speech, The Joy of the Job... Love the Job your With! Keys to more fulfillment in your work
