Imagine a world where you are not shackled to your desk. Imagine a world where you are not promoted for the amount of time you spend working, but quite simply you are rewarded for results.
This is the message that motivational speakers Jody Thompson and Cali Ressler suggest in their book, Why Managing Sucks.
The core message of their book and their motivational speeches is that deadlines and just showing up don't really matter. What matters is Results. Work is something you do; not a place you go.
The rules the motivational speakers suggest are:
- Sack the 9 to 5
- All meetings are optional
- You are paid for work not time
- Every day should feel like Saturday
- There is no hiding; if you don't produce, you're gone
Results Only Work ( ROW) is not a new concept. Several years ago I saw a funny motivational speaker talk about The GAP and how they also use ROW. What struck me as interesting is that in a retail environment, they are not paid for the time they put in but the results they produce.
Results Only Work suggests that truly you can work wherever you want, whenever you want as long as you produce the results needed. Ultimatley, workers get freedom and in the meantime they are more productive.
Instead of watching the clock people are watching their results.
